Medicare Decisions as a Couple

Your Medicare choices can affect your spouse – here's what to know

If Your Spouse Has Employer Coverage

You may be able to stay on your spouse's employer plan past 65, but you should still evaluate Medicare options.

Employer plans with fewer than 20 employees typically require you to enroll in Medicare at 65.

If You're Different Ages

Each spouse enrolls in Medicare individually based on their own age. The older spouse should enroll at 65 regardless of the younger spouse's situation.
