What is Medigap?

Medicare Supplement Insurance helps pay costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover

What Medigap Covers

  • Part A hospital coinsurance
  • Part B coinsurance or copayments
  • Blood (first 3 pints)
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • Part A and Part B deductibles (some plans)
  • Foreign travel emergency care

Standardized Plans

Medigap plans are standardized and labeled with letters (A through N). Each plan type offers the same basic benefits, no matter which company sells it.

Important: Medigap only works with Original Medicare. You cannot use Medigap with a Medicare Advantage plan.

The best time to buy is during your 6-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which starts the month you turn 65 and enroll in Part B.
